F-1 is generally used for academic study at universities, colleges and other qualifying academic institutions. M visas are used for vocational or other qualifying nonacademic study.
The current U.S. Department of State nonimmigrant visa application fee listed for F student visas is US$185. Government fees can change, so applicants should verify the current amount before payment.
The current I-901 SEVIS fee for F/M students is US$350. Always confirm the applicable fee before making payment.
New F and M student visas can currently be issued up to 365 days before the start date of the course. However, new students generally cannot enter the United States more than 30 days before the programme start date.
Under current U.S. Department of State guidance, in-person interviews are generally required for nonimmigrant visa applicants, subject to limited exceptions. Consular officers can also require an interview where otherwise applicable.
